This class serves as an introduction to chemistry and physics for early high school students and mature 8th graders. It will cover topics such as matter and its properties, changes of state, elements and the periodic table, atoms and bonding, motion, forces, energy and simple machines. Students will be challenged to apply simple math to science problems, perform data analysis, create and interpret graphs and apply the scientific method. Hands-on labs, demonstrations and activities will provide interactive opportunities for learning. Students will be expected to be able to write out vocabulary definitions, take notes in class, and complete practice pages and critical thinking exercises. Online chapter quizzes will be used to assess student progress.
